Fiji is an island nation located in the heart of South Pacific Ocean. It is a group of 300 islands scattered through out a large area of south pacific of which 100 islands are inhabited. The two islands named Viti Levu and Vanua Leve has over 95% of the land mass and is home to most of the population of these tropical islands. You can exactly define the location as ‘it is about two thirds of the way from Hawaii to Newzealand’.
Fiji islands are one of the world’s most beautiful tropical destinations. This country is abundant with beaches lagoons and it offers a great gateway for those who are looking for an island paradise. Fiji is also a very popular diving destination. The warm tropical water makes diving a real pleasure especially in the summer months from November to April. The high season according to Fiji tourism industry is between the months from May to October. There are around 60 dive operators in Fiji and they are located in the Mamanucas, Yasawas, Kadavu, Beqa Lagoon, Vanua Levu and Taveuni.
Taveuni is one of Fijis top diving destinations. You can reach this island by air through domestic airlines. This island is providing easy access to the world class Rainbow Reef which is known as one of the world best scuba diving locations. The Rainbow reef is located in the southern coastline of Vanua Levu. In the Rainbow Reef you can enjoy dives at Great White Wall with a depth of 15 to 60 meters which is filled with beautiful white corals. Blue Ribbon Eel Reef gives you the opportunity of drift drive to spot the Blue Ribbon Eel. Cabbage patch will displays you hard corals during your dive and it will looks like an abundant garden. There are resorts in this coastline which promotes diving. The point were water divides the two islands is called the somosomo strait and the ocean current passes through this strait is bringing rich nutrition’s which is largely helping the corals and marine life to become so spectacular.
Kadavu the 4th largest island found in the southern island group will offer you the beautiful view of Astrolabe Reef. This is one of the world’s largest reefs and the bio diversity of the coral species here is magnificent to watch out. Naigoro passage Marine Reserve is the breeding ground for many fish species and un exploited remote reef make this a spectacular spot for diving. You will also feel excellent visibility under this water.
Another attraction is the Beqa lagoon with 40 mile reef which was formed from an extinct volcanic crater. In this lagoon you can go for soft coral, wreck diving or shark feeding. . There are four wrecks in this lagoon, all purposely sunk during last decade and these wrecks become house for marine species like cod, grouper, barracuda and fusiliers. There are excellent diving sites in this lagoon with soft corals in the name of Rusi’s pinnacle and carpet cove. Shark encounter dives allows divers to get close look at varieties of shark species.
